      Description
      ===========

      The Chart Information files in this collection use the
      Astrolog for OS/2 file format, which should be backwards
      compatible with the original Astrolog file format. The 
      birth data comes from various sources of which the most 
      notable (and remembered) are listed below.


      Licensing
      =========

      This compilation of birth data is free, but copyrighted and 
      not in the public domain. Permission is granted to any 
      individual or institution to use this data, but not to 
      redistribute it in any way or form without first asking for 
      permission from the copyright holder. If when using the 
      the data you come across erroneous birth details you are
      obliged by this licence to inform the archive maintainer.
      Under Microsoft Windows timed birth data may only be used 
      with an AstroDatabank licence.


      Documentation 
      =============

      The chart information files contain name and time and place 
      of birth. The directory structure compensates for the lack 
      of a class data field in the current Astrolog Chart 
      Information file format. This is likely to change with the
      next major release of Astrolog for OS/2.

           (actors, but not directors or singers)
       - Artists 
           (directors and others off stage)
       - Astrologers
           (astrology practitioners including writers)
       - Clerics
           (people of the clergy)
       - Comedians
           (where comedy is the key)
       - Composers
           (prominent composers including performers)
       - Entrepreneurs
           (business risk-takers)
       - Performers
           (people on stage who do not fit other categories)
       - Politicians
           (politicians who do not inherit their positions)
       - Royals
           (faces of royalty)
       - Scitechs
           (people best known as scientists and inventors)
       - Sports
           (competitive sports people and athletes)
       - Talkers
           (talkers hosting their own shows)
       - Writers
           (writers who do not fit other categories)
       - Others

      Locations are given in original language where known and
      possible following a fairly consistent format starting with
      town, city, county or equivalent (any particular county,
      burrough, neighborhood within a city is omitted), then 
      country, state or equivalent, and finally (within 
      parenthesis) nation. 

      Nation is (with one exception) where possible given as the 
      associated international licence plate code. The exception
      is UK instead of GB for the United Kingdom of Great Britain 
      and Northern Ireland. A full list of codes used can be

      Lois Rodden's Astro Databank has been used to verify 
      old birth data using the Lois Rodden reliability rating and
      also to extend the collection with a few new charts
      publicly available through its web site.

      Ratings
      =======

      Only AA, A, and X follow the Rodden system. Times that
      are exact, but not necessarily taken from a biography 
      carry a B rating. Whenever the time is approximated the 
      data is rated C. Records where the time is very uncertain 
      are given a D. An X indicates unknown time.
